Flush with the victories of election day, it is easy to overlook the fact that the election is
still not over.Of course, we know about the situation in Virginia (perhaps resolved in the next couple of days !), but ther are actually eight important House seats that are still undecided. They are, according to CNN :
Connecticut 2nd
Georgia 12th
New Mexico 1st
North Carolina 8th
Ohio 2nd
Ohio 15th
Washington 8th
Wyoming at large
Here are the current details for each race :
District Dem Rep Margin
CT-02 Courtney 121,321 Simmons 121,151 170
GA-12 Barrow 71,500 Burns 70,641 859
NC-08 Kissell 60,048 Hayes 60,508 460
NM-01 Madrid 100,981 Wilson 102,376 1395
OH-02 Wuslin 111,609 Schmidt 113,932 2323
OH-15 Kilroy 98,100 Pryce 101,636 3536
WA-08 Burner 74,861 Burner 77,597 2736
WY-AL Trauner 92,227 Cubin 93,197 970
Assuming that these figures stand, then GA-12 and CT-02 are the key races. GA-12, where Rebulican-lead redistricting was designed to eliminate an incumbent Democrat, is the real key. If we lose this then the shutout is gone. And, since I live in Georgia, it is just one more red nail in my coffin. CT-02 would, if we are successful, give us a net gain of 29 seats.
It is nice to see the results in WY-AL and NC-08. These are as red as you can get, and yet our candidates have made an exception showing. Hopefully, they will be in the ballgame in 2 years.
NM-01, OH-02 and OH-15 are real disappointments, as we have probably barely missed ejecting some really dislikeable Republican incumbents. Again, lets hope that that the Dems in these races are back in 2 more years.
