Maybe we need to phrase the question this way: "Why do you hate Americans who are poor? Why do you want their children to die and starve?"
I'm trying to come up with a good way to embarrass House and Senate Republicans into not cutting Medicaid and Food Stamps. Here we are, a few short weeks after Katrina, and they're planning to use budget reconciliation to slam through $13 billion in cuts -- a $10 billion cut to Medicaid and up to a 3 billion cut to Food Stamps. 20 million children will have more difficulty seeing a doctor when they're sick, and 300,000 (at a minimum) would lose Food Stamps.
In the wake of Katrina, we should be able to build momentum to stop these cuts. You can embarrass people into doing the right thing sometimes. McCain did, eventually, get 90 Senators to agree that Americans shouldn't condone torture EVER.
Americans can't condone sickness and starvation among its low-income children and families either. We need to prioritize health and food for Americans over another tax giveaway for ultra-wealthy Americans. SEND A LETTER to your Senators.
There are a lot of these online campaigns to stop Medicaid cuts -- but you can take action on this page without being contacted by that organization--so just do it. Edit the message AND PASS THIS MESSAGE ON TO PEOPLE WHO WILL BEAT THE DRUM ON IT. Senators and Reps are in their home states this week. They vote on this next week.
If not "Why do you hate poor kids" then what? Open to suggestions here.
