With all the hoopla over Alito and Abramoff, the number of soldiers killed in Iraq has not been our focus lately. The purpose of this diary is to remind you that the losses continue. The number as of 7:00pm, January 24, 2006 (as far as we know) is 2236. Those are 2236 families that are forever changed because of George Bush's lies and incompetence. 2236 families that will forever grieve because of George Bush's lies and incompetence.
There's not much we can do to help those families, but for the many still serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, etc., you can make a difference. Go to the AnySoldier website (http://www.anysoldier.com/) and adopt a soldier or unit. It's a simple way to show your support.
There's more...
My family did this during the holidays, and our DFA Tampa Bay group has taken this on as a service project. In our packages, I included a letter telling the soldiers that we disagreed with Bush's policy, but wanted to show our appreciation to them for their sacrifice. The soldier replied that he very much enjoyed my letter. He said that it was nice to know that there were good people who cared about them even though they didn't support what they are doing in Iraq.
Please take the time to participate in this worthwhile project.
