There have been a lot of recent diaries on Net Neutrality. It's an important topic. But I'm writing another one today because I feel we need a diary that is comprehensive with regard to
all the action items available to us.
This diary will be a compilation of info...as a result, there are people to thank who have come up with these ideas and put together the info before. First and foremost are Save the Internet.com and Free Press. Then of course there's everyone who's posted about Net Neutrality. I can't name everyone...the list is LONG...so I'll just say thanks to everyone!
Now, let's take some action!!
Save the Internet.com has a
chart where you can look up your Senator's stance on Net Neutrality. Rather than follow the links back and forth, I've separated and copied that list for you. So, search below and find out where your Senators stand and then keep reading for what your next steps should be...there are multiple actions to take today (and frankly, every day until this vote takes place).

Here are some things we might be able to assume about those in the "Unknown" category:
1. I'm going to assume MOST of those Repugs will end up voting the way the White House wants them to....to kill Net Neutrality.
2. I'm also going to assume some of those Dems are still "unknown" because they don't want to give Stevens a better idea as to where he stands. However, there's always the chance that they are actually considering voting against Net Neutrality. I've highlighted the Dems on this above list. Let's put an extra focus on them!
3. Stevens might be CLOSE to the 60 votes he needs to get a floor vote sometime this week. Let's make sure he doesn't get close enough. If we can stop him from getting the votes now, we can get more time to solidify the fight on our side and we can have more time to educate the public.
Now, there's more to do than just CALL your representatives.
Here are some action items:
1. Of course, there's calling. The phone numbers are listed above. I'm originally from Chicago, so I've got this motto: Call Early, Call Often. I mean really...it can't hurt ;-)
2. If you haven't yet, sign the petition.
3. Visit the Action Center at Free Press, and the Action Center at Save the Internet.
4. Write a Letter to the Editor of as many local papers as you can. The link takes you to an LTE tool that is REALLY helpful. It not only has all the papers in your state, it also has talking points for you to include in your letters. Seriously, check this one out and do it...if we don't get the word out to people, the telcos will.
5. Click here to download a Flier and get to work passing these out and posting them around town!!
6. Email your friends and family. Sign the petition above and then send that link to EVERYONE in your inbox. Pass this info around work as well...especially if you work at a small business and so on.
7. Here are some interesting articles. I'm not exactly clear on the legality of these so I'll just leave you to read them for yourselves and decide from there. There's this article which Matt Stoller linked to the other day. It details the efforts of a conservative group to target shareholder meetings of those companies who support Net Neutrality. If they can target shareholder meetings...why can't we? There's also this article. Read on for ideas...
So, obviously there's a LOT you can do to fight the telcos. Let's continue the fight! Please pledge to do at least ONE of those actions above! We can stop the telcos, but we have to work hard to do so.
