Now some may want to call me unrealistic but after this and the last very nasty election I would like to see:
1. I would like to see legislation passed that a candidate has to run on their record - and only on their record. They can't even mention the other candidate by name or by the phrase "my opponent".
More below:
2. I would like to see legislation passed that if an elected official publically lies or 'misleads'(I hate that word) - to their colleages, their constituents, or the media, they have committed a felony.
3. I would like to see public financing of elections - keep the corporations and the very wealthy out of the picture.
4. I would like to see that once you are elected, you represent all consituents - whether it be a mayor, governor, senator, congressperson, and especially a president - you have abdicated your party; you are not allowed to campaign for anyone else unless you are running for re-election - only then can you campaign - for yourself.
5. There used to be something called "truth in advertising". We need it back.
And finally:
6. I would like to see that once you are elected president and there are problems like say a war or a Katrina, etc, you are not allowed to go on vacation or a PR tour until that problem is solved. Period. You broke it you own it and you owe it to your constituents - all of them - to show you can be the person who promised to protect, defend, and represent the United States of American against all enemies - foreign and domestic. We should not have to protect ourselves from you.
It may be naive but I don't care. It's what I want.
