US News and World Report is a conservative source, and the story about the NSA (update: rather FBI) searching Muslim homes and public areas for traces of radiation is a Republican ploy to move the discussion from the indefensible to the defensible. Don't fall for it. So far, we have gay kissing declared a "terrorist threat", and evidence of widespread surveillance of many people with no discernable connection to terrorism. The Republicans would love to push that off the air by having liberals object to searching Muslim locales for radiation, which is credibly an anti-terrorist activity, legal or not, and for which there is probably no innocent explanation.
Letting this become the discussion, as the media will now try to do, lets the Republicans have the debate they want, rather than the one we want and the one the nation desparately needs. Leave this as a minor matter, and push the widespread surveillance issue. Even if this seems to have better legal legs, Bush will win this with the supes by crying "mushroom cloud". In the meantime, investigations to which that answer could not be applied will have been passed over.
Come baaaack.... Come back before it's too laaaaate....
