It's not over in NC-08 folks. Larry Kissell, our real-deal progressive 'everyman' may yet be going to congress.
NC has a terrific young progressive state party chair in Jerry Meek. He has been a huge booster of Larry Kissell and the grassroots and netroots. (Kos writes about Meek in Crashing the Gate).
Just got this email from NC Dem Party Chair, Jerry Meek, on behalf of Larry:
"Right now, Kissell is behind by about 460 votes, but 1,500 provisional ballots remain uncounted. As provisional ballots tend to favor Democrats, we are very optimistic about our chances in the 8th District.
Here at the State Party, we spent the maximum we were legally allowed to spend (over $100,000) expressly advocating for Larry Kissell. The national Democratic Party has sent in some of the best election lawyers in the country and the NCDP is working closely with the Kissell campaign to ensure that every vote is counted."
The last I heard, Larry Kissell is in debt $47,000 dollars -- probably more than he makes in a year as a high school social studies teacher.
I know everyone is feeling tapped out from the election, but if you can find something to donate to Larry Kissell today, please go to http://www.larrykissell.com/...
Robin Hayes is one of the richest members of Congress and is already claiming he won. In a democracy, someone shouldn't declare himself the winner, especially with more than three times the margin separating the candidates still outstanding. Just three votes per precinct are needed to defeat flip-floppin' Robin Hayes once and for all.
Let's defeat one more odious Republican congressman. Send Larry Kissell to the 110th Congress. It's within reach!
One of our own needs our help -- let's finish this for Larry.
Many thanks to all of you across the country who have have contributed to turning NC blue.
