I suppose I was dreaming.
I was dreaming that the new Democratic majority would be different, and yes, I believe deep in my soul that ultimately they will respond in some reasonable fashion to the tsunami of tragedies inflicted on the American people over the last six years. But, I am still deeply sad for my Party and my people.
I want to tell myself that I love every Democrat, no matter what they say and do. They will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with average Americans, they will champion our terribly neglected needs--but will they?
And equally important, when will they?
I'm aligning myself with the sorry spectacle crowd. After six horrific years of Bush, the Hoyer-Murtha show down was the best this bunch could offer. What a joke. How fucking narcissistic--it's all about them. It's always all about them.
We're waiting, and now we'll wait a little longer. Now we're being asked to wait until after Thanksgiving. You see, our representatives need to get home to celebrate with their families.
They'll just put addressing the tragedies on hold until after their holiday recess. Imagine if Speaker Pelosi had stepped up to a microphone and said, "the American people cannot wait another minute for us to go to work, so I've asked all the members of the Democratic caucus to remain in Washington over the Thanksgiving recess so we can begin to formulate an agenda for the American people."
Imagine.
Like so many, I have been deeply brutalized and terribly traumatized for six long dark years. I suppose that I was stupidly expecting nothing less than perfection. What I saw unfold was simply more of the same.
Okay, I'm told the intraparty fight was "good for Democracy". We Democrats wash our dirty linen in public. Problem is, Speaker Pelosi, there are so many desperate Americans that they no longer give a rat's ass about the "good for Democracy" bullshit. They want only to see some "what are you doing for me" activity. And on this, we're still waiting.
Are all of you miserable bastards (forgive me, I'm angry), going to wage holy war for the neglected American people?
Be on notice, every single on of you--we expect you to conduct our business, every minute of every day. If you do, we will win back the White House in 2008. If you don't, we will have only ourselves to blame for quite literally snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
If you don't we will fire you. I repeat, things have changed, the American people run this show. If you don't champion us, you will go. Period. This is not a threat, this is a promise.
Yesterday Delaware Dem posted a diary telling Dems to basically shut the fuck up.
As you might imagine, it elicited a lot of comments. In my opinion, he made some valid points. Here is where I would take exception.
Dems must shut the fuck up about their own bullshit and start to scream and fight from the highest trees in the land about the problems of the American people.
You get one more chance to show us your stuff.
I'm not being harsh, people are dying.
