Unbelievable. I am reading Woodward's book, "State of Denial," and have just come across a stunning revelation which I have NOT seen reported anywhere else. According to the book, the Fox News Channel and the White house coordinated their message on election night 2004.
I'll retype the pertinent paragraph (from page 346) in its entirety. In recounts a telephone call from the night of the 2004 election:
[White House counselor Dan] Bartlett talked with one of the Vice Presidents at Fox News Channel, the conservative television outlet whose ratings were soaring and whose CEO, Roger Ailes, had been Bush senior's media consultant. Ailes was being careful this night not to talk with the White House directly. But the network official Bartlett spoke with was relaying a message from Ailes for Rove. In 2000, Fox had been the first network to call the contested State of Florida, and thus the election, for Bush. This time, the message from Ailes was "You don't want me to be the first one to call it.
Unbelievable. We all regularly point out the fact that Fox is biased in favor of Republicans and the right wing. But here they are, on election night, openly coordinating with the Republican White House.
Fox "News" is not a news organization. It is a public relations arm of the Republican party.
