Someone tell the Democrats that they actually won the midterm elections. Someone tell them quick that the people have spoken, and by their votes have defined what is now the political "center".
No longer is oppositon to the war a far-left notion. No longer is the demand that our troops come home now be dismissed as radical, extreme or far left. No longer is the suggestion that the President and his cohorts be impeached if they have committed war crimes a piece of wild-eyed Bush-hating fringe rhetoric. No longer do Democrats need cringe at being tarred terrorist lovers for defending the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Yet in the face of this huge electoral vindication, the leadership of this party seems determined to yet again betray us, the American people, and surrender their victory in the name of bipartisanship, compromise, and alleigance to the sleeping dogs of the Bush administration's murderous malfeasance.
The Democratic defeatists' narrative is already in full play in our media. The language of defeat is heard everywhere. A typical example: "Pelosi’s Ascendancy in House Puts a Close Liberal Ally in the Spotlight" http://www.nytimes.com/... Murtha's candidacy was defeated by "the more centrist" Hoyer. Would "...Mrs. Pelosi ...let her liberal allies have too much influence." Will the "far left [now] dominate and destabilize the Democrats, after they have emerged from 12 years in the minority[?]"
If the Democrats allow the "center" to be defined as half GOP, in the face of an electoral lynching of all things Republican by American voters, they will betray all of us who worked hard for the November victory, they will have betrayed the clear mandate offered them by the people, and worse of all, they will betray the very principles on which the Democratic Party is constituted.
Beware of those who come now with talk of "moderation", of "compromise", and of what's "good for the country". They are traitors to the American people, they are Quislings. They come to wash the blood off of the many hands in the Bush Administration and the US military, and those enablers still in the Democratic Party. It is time to strongly assert our newly found political power, and in fighting fire with fire, let us exploit our advantage with a veritable blizzard of retroactive legislation, committee subpoenas, and ultimately, the impeachment of George Bush and company for high crimes and misdemeanours. Anything less would be extremist.
