A few weeks back, I ran a poll on who we Kossacks thought was the worst Senate duo. I nearly voted for my state's delegation of Liddy Dole and Richard Burr--just when I was getting used to not having to hang my head in shame when I said I was from North Carolina, I'm stuck with a Senate duo composed of a poser (Dole) and a douche (Burr).
Well, the poser spoke out a couple of days ago on Rovegate--and her remarks came straight from the Jesse Helms playbook.
Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.), chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said yesterday, "The partisan attacks against Karl Rove are out of control and entirely inappropriate. He is a distinguished member of the White House and he is my friend. It is incredibly irresponsible for individuals and organizations to make accusations based on rumor and innuendo. It is unfair to the investigation and even more unfair to Karl Rove."
Liddy, Liddy, Liddy. What rock have you been under? I was so disgusted that I had to pester her for the second time in a week--my email to her is below the fold.
Senator, your characterizations of the calls for Karl Rove's resignation are simply beyond believability.
How in the world is a simple demand that the president keep his word and fire anyone responsible for leaking Valerie Plame's identity "partisan" and "inappropriate"? There is nothing partisan about a desire to punish those responsible for a serious breach of national security. At a minimum, Rove is a loose cannon. At worst, his actions border on treason. If this were a Democratic administration, I can assure you the cries from the left would be just as loud.
And apparently you missed that one of your fellow Republicans, Jim Holt of Arkansas--who ran against Blanche Lincoln for Senate last year and is currently running for lieutenant governor--called for Rove to resign. It's very sad that more members of your party haven't had similar courage.
When are you going to stop being a Republican senator and start being an American senator?
