Well, I see that the mighty Right Wing Wurleitzer has decided that it is important to concentrate solely on Jim Webb. Yesterday, driving home, I heard Michael Medved decrying the uncivility of Jim Webb. This morning, I heard Michael Smerconish doing the same thing. And now, I see George F. Will calling the Senator-elect a "boor."
Hundreds of thousands are dying in Iraq, the economy is slowing, the housing bubble has burst, deficits are at an all time high, along a myriad of other legitimate and serious problems, and Jim Webb's manners are topic number 1 in the Right Wing Media.
First, I must say that if I was ever confronted by President Bush, the urge to deck the man would overcome me and my last words while being dragged away to my rendering center would be filled with obscenities.
So I understand Jim Webb's response to Bush's question. You cannot possibly hide your disdain for the man and all he stands for when confronted by him. Give Jim Webb credit. He knew this about himself and he took every opportunity to avoid the confrontation. He did not pass through the receiving line. He did not take the group photo with the President.
But the President sought him out, because the President is that kinda guy. He is that type of fraternity asshole who would piss on you to make a point. The President knew Webb despised him, and that is why he confronted Webb. Because the President thought "heh heh heh, I am da preznit, and he has to respect meh allways, because I am da preznit."
So off Bush went. And when Bush did not receive the answer he wanted, like a petulant child, he responded without the respect he was seeking.
Respect.
Why do arrogant and incompetent assholes think they are automatically entitled to respect?
Why do they think the Office they are maligning and tainting for years to come entitles them to respect?
Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney and all of their Republican sycophants, listen up.
You have done nothing over the last 6 years to earn the respect your office normally grants you.
You have taken every opportunity to call those who oppose you, or those who dissent from the War in Iraq, unAmerican and unpatriotic at best, and traitors at worst.
And yet you expect respect from those very people.
That takes balls. But it also takes an arrogrance and a vanity so profound that one wonders if you do nothing in private but look at yourself in the mirror.
You have given no respect, and thus you shall receive no respect.
It is that simple.
The Office of the Presidency and the Vice Presidency entitled you to respect in the beginning, but you have wasted that privilege.
Indeed, if you consider me and my many many like-minded friends traitors, why do you even want my respect? An honest man wouldn't. I don't want your respect. You can shove that up where the sun don't shine.
You want it because you think it gives you power, and in the end, that is what this is all about. You want respect from Jim Webb because you want power over him. You want respect from us because you want power over us.
And that only proves what a small man you really are. You really have no self esteem. A man with any confidence would not behave in such a way.
It is really a shame, that when all is said and done, millions will be dead, and trillions will be spent, and institutions long lasting will have been either severely damaged or destroyed, and our Constitution will have been shredded simply because George W. Bush and his ilk are, shall we say, insecure in their manhood.
