Nancy Reagan is lobbying the Senate to support stem cell research (
Read the article). You might've disagreed with her husband's polices and politics, but regardless, Mrs. Reagan deserves credit here.
Send her a thank you note.
The Senate will likely be voting in the next few weeks on whether to expand stem cell research (i.e., to overturn Bush's restrictions). This is our best chance in years to help move this research forward. And we need to encourage other prominent Republican figures like Mrs. Reagan to speak out for it, so it's not painted as a partisan issue.
Yes, there are sexier (and easier to understand) issues, but take some time, learn about what's at stake here, and you'll see why stem cells should rank number one on your activist list. (it's hard to outrank something that offers hope for a cure for cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, etc.)
Send Nancy Reagan a thank you note.
And then start passing the world around the blogosphere -- this issue is getting way too little attention from us, given how high the stakes are.
