Well, for those of you following the oh-so-engrossing story of my personal employment troubles, an update:
Got called into the boss' office today to get chewed out one more time and get told that he didn't think that my employment situation was working out (Duh!). Today I was told, for the first time, that the client I've been devoting 90% of my time to on two multi-million dollar cases didn't want to pay for the time I gave to my boss because he was unhappy with the results so far. Of course, let's remember that the client has gotten everything they have asked for to this point, but hey...what do I know? I'm just a lowly trial attorney. (more below...)
Anyway, the boss starts coming up with this stuff about it's going to cost him more to keep me on because I couldn't bring in the income from his PRE-EXISTING client. Apparently, he doesn't seem to think that management, billing, or client relations are in the domain of a managing partner, or that the fact that he can't "bill the client for my time" for doing that tasks of a lawyer is supposed to do (research, writing motions, writing complaints, etc.) is somehow the fault of the lowly associate.
So, I told him what I was going to tell him next week anyway: I don't think it's working out either. And fair thee well. I'm outta here.
So I'm free. And unemployed. And I have a potential wage claim against him if he doesn't pay me for September (which I have a sneaking suspicion he won't).
But for the time being, I'm breathing easier. Now I can concentrate on finding something better...and something I really want to do.
Feel free to lob the huzzahs or critiques my way...and thanks to all who have given advice in past diaries.
