And unfortunately, the answer is pretty darn boring. There were hopes a month ago (based on one website which said that the meaning of Libby's nickname could not be printed on a "news site") that perhaps "Scooter" was some embarassing, hard-to-shed albatross. Read below to find out the answer.
Here it is:
"White House Letter: Novelist in Chief of Staff's Clothing"
by Elisabeth Bumiller (February 18, 2002)
The New York Times
Mr. Libby will at least talk about his nickname, which he got the day his father watched him crawling across his crib and joked, 'He's a Scooter!'
'I love it,' said Mr. Libby, 51, of his nickname. 'There is a tendency in Washington for people to take themselves a little too seriously, and it's pretty hard to take yourself seriously when your name is Scooter.'"
Of course, Libby could be holding out on us. Maybe he really got it from that "Scooter my daisy heads!" cell phone ad.
