Atrios reports that Silvester Reyes will chair the House Intelligence Committee.  There are ten reasons why Nancy Pelosi selected him:

  1. He makes sure to include her when they pass notes during study hall about what Libby Dole wore last night
  1. He totally gets her sense of humor.  Totally.

  1. Once, when Nancy was feeling bad about what Maureen Dowd said about her, Silvestre sent her an e-card that was really sweet.
  1. Alcee Hastings was indicted for corruption.
  1. Jane Harman is, like, a total biyatch, and hogs the remote control when Laguna Beach is on.
  1. Like Nancy, Silvestre thinks the Fray are just a knock-off group of posers trying to be Coldplay.
  1. Jane Harman thinks pink is still "in".
  1. Silvestre spells his name cool.  Don't you think Silvestre is the coolest way to spell it?
  1. Nancy is like a totally open minded person.  And Silvestre is all, like, Hispanic and everything.
  1. Jane Harman is a Bush-enabling hack who's gotten every major intelligence issue wrong and then provided cover for the Bush Administration, thinks spying on Americans is cool and won't help the Democrats hold the Gang Who Couldn't Shoot Straight accountable.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.

(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

  •  Silvestre? (0+ / 0-)

Why not Rush Holt, someone who actually seems to possess some intelligence?  Oh, right, that's an immediate disqualifier.

Since when is a previous job as a border patrol agent adequate qualification to be chairman of the house intelligence committee?

Glad to see Harman snubbed and Hastings relegated to the back of the room, however.

    •  Reyes (0+ / 0-)

has more seniority than Holt, and is a very well-respected figure. He was a border patrol agent and has an extensive knowledge of intelligence issues. He also voted against the war and is thought of as a very genuine, trustworthy guy.

Also, Texas was not going to have any chairmanships due to the DeLaymander.
