It occurs to me that with the widespread application of "stress positions" and other inhumane treatment as possibly used on Jose Padilla as noted here and possibly many other even less important "targets" of the US military that we should collectively provide some sort of remedy for people who have been harmed by these actions. More to the point...
PTSD is a most likely consequence of this treatment and there may be need for continuing medical care for some of these people for the rest of their lives. What I propose is to fund resorts with medical staffs that can provide a month or more of R+R for people who have been tortured and set them up with possible relocation and continuing medical care. Amnesty international is one group who could likely administer such a program. There are possibly others.
The US government should provide funding to finance operations such as this as part of a remedy for any people who are found innocent and have been subjected to harsh treatment. We should start something like this as well with our combined power of numbers. I will leave it to the comments for a coherent plan to form. I for one plan to donate to Amnesty international with a proposal that this is needed. It is one thing for us to overreact and treat people inhumanely. It is even worse to put them out on the street afterwards with the expectation that they put their lives back together by themselves without any further help. Will you join me?
