Here in Cincinnati we treasure public radio. And we are lucky enough to have two stations, classical WGUC and all-news, all-day WVXU. A year ago when Ohio Christian Broadcasting tried to purchase the all-news station, WGUC bought WVXU, saving the day. It has been a beautiful marriage.
But little known to most is that parent company XStar also owned three additional Ohio repeater stations (airing the same content of the all-news station.) Recently, to our great dismay, we learned that WVXW-FM West Union, WVXC-FM in Chillicothe, and WVXR-FM in Richmond, Ind. - are being sold to Ohio Christian broadcaster, Christian Voice of Central Ohio pending FCC approval. Christian Voice of Central Ohio also operates WCVO-FM (104.9) near Columbus and WCVZ-FM (92.7) in Zanesville. Cincinnati Public Radio has yet to announce the sale.
I don't know about you, but it seems to us that when religious bradcasting replaces hard news, there is cause for concern. The frog, oh so slowly, approaches the boiling point. Yet no one notices.
