Four states and 275 local cities have passed resolutions against the USA Patriot Act.
Mainstream candidates like John Edwards, Howard Dean and John Kerry have made the erosion of civil liberties a major campaign issue.
And now, even employees of John Ashcroft are admitting the USA Patriot Act is headed for the dustbin of history:
"We're losing this fight," said Chuck Rosenberg, chief of staff to Deputy Attorney General James B. Comey. Rosenberg said the "bumper sticker" campaigns criticizing Ashcroft and the Patriot Act are making it harder to sell the public on the virtues of making it easier to go after terrorists.
The struggle for our civil liberties is an inspiring effort of how citizens can come together to make change. Elections are important, but so is grassroots participation in the political process. Check the movement out on the web: www.bordc.org. Is your city listed?
