Greetings good citizen, welcome as we embark on yet another journey into the recesses of your mind.
Presented here for your consideration are not topics any of you actually dwell upon so much as items that have likely given you pause as you flip through the dairies.
It has been said that organizing liberals is a task akin to herding cats.
A quick scan of the diaries on display here at any given moment will confirm the ‘diversity’ of our community.
Yet the recent elections prove that this diverse group is indeed united...just not in the way you’d think.
If we were to ask ‘what’s wrong with this country (or world for that matter)’ chances are good we’d get a few dozen equally valid issues.
So what, exactly, united this ‘herd of cats’?
A majority of ‘average’ citizens don’t like (although fear is closer to the mark) the direction this country is heading.
The Gordian Knot of interlocking issues gives most of us the impression that we can’t, as a community, gel down and focus on a common agenda.
That said, it is important to keep in mind that most of us aren’t ‘single issue’ diarists.
Given the variety and complexity of the issues facing us as a society one has to wonder why none of these issues are being addressed.
The answer to this rhetorical conundrum is ‘vehicle’ good citizen...more succinctly, the lack thereof.
No matter your pet concern, there is no vehicle for you to address it with.
Worse, what little control you had over the ‘old’ vehicle left for us by the ‘founding fathers’ [control that was miniscule at best] is also slipping away.
It seems to me that all other issues flow from this one central point.
If we don’t have the tools to fix the problems and if nothing happens to those who do have the tools but choose to ignore the problems (for two to four years at a time) aren’t we just spinning our wheels?
Verily.
Let’s flip that rock over for a moment and admit that our current vehicle is also the source of the problems!
I love you all dearly but I don’t trust any of you with the power of government.
Not one...myself included.
Ironically, this simple statement of fact provides us with one blueprint for a new vehicle.
The objective of our new vehicle is to level the playing field by replacing our current system of self-interest with one that puts the common good first and foremost.
For I say unto you that if we fail to strike at the heart of the problem, a system that rewards greed and waste, and replace it with a system that focuses on sustainability and the general welfare, we WILL cause our own extinction.
As matters now stand we will be hard pressed to avoid a massive die off in the not too distant future. A die off that is already happening in other parts of the planet as you read this...a die off caused by greed, waste and a system that rewards both...a system that already spans the globe, quite literally choking it to death.
First things first good citizen, think it over.
Thanks for letting me inside your head,
Gegner
