This Saturday Morning Political Cartoons will be hosted by a new Comic KosArtist, SisTwo. "Formly a member of the Silent Majority", SisTwo became part of our very Vocal Minority using the written word back in March 2005, and enjoys cartooning. At her place of employment, SisTwo embellishes a white grease board with different characters, to liven up schedules and to do lists. Her fellow workers requested she do this, because they enjoyed the images she makes.
I saw one of her creations in this diary: A Perfect Storm, giving a new way to look at Rubber Stamp Republicans.
Flip for Sis with me..
Though not a professional cartoonist, she has been the semi- official White Board Embellisher for seven years at work, on average once a week. Her art is transient, in the tradition of the Navaho and Tibetan sand painters, who make beautiful designs with the foreknowledge that nothing is permanent. The Navaho sand painting is intentionally scattered at the end of a healing ceremony. The Tibetan Monks, who are ancesterly linked to the Navaho, also destroy their sand mandalas.
In Sistwo's case, her cartoons are erased to make room for a new week's activities. Over time, she commited some of these images to pen and paper. As a newly commited KosArtist, Sistwo will be sharing them with all of us on some Saturday Mornings.
Here is one of Sistwo's Rubber Stamp Republicans:
Gordon Smith
Her first diary introduced herself as well described by the lyrics to this J C. Mellencamp song:
Well, I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Prob'ly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities
All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity
Educated in a small town
Taught the fear of Jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another boring romantic that's me
But I've seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an L.A. doll and brought her to this small town
Now she's small town just like me
No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be
Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say
Look who's in the big town
But my bed is in a small town
Oh, and that's good enough for me
Well I was born in a small town
And I can breath in a small town
Gonna die in this small town
And that's prob'ly where they'll bury me
She says:
"dKos seems a good place for me, with a good mix of good people. I'm a moderate centralist with some very conservative views. The WASP community that I grew up in made me dislike hypocrites, I left there and never looked back."
I'm glad SisTwo found a home here on Daily Kos..
She is a profilic and thoughtful writer, and learned far quicker then me, how to post images to illustrate her thoughts. She also obviously loves music, as lyrics are sprinkled through her work (always with proper credit. Here is one where she describes "Starry Night"
as one of her favorite works of VanGogh, mentioning that some of his favorite subjects were war veterans.
She wrote a funny pieceon how she dealt with the frustration of listening to the President during the 2004 debates.
Maybe this subject is on my mind now because we keep hearing the same (your choice of adjective for excrement here) lies from the current administration over and over again. It might be déjà vu (all over again) like the song by John Fogerty. You can count on every speech containing "9/11", "terra", and other words designed to scare people. It might be "Deja Moo: The feeling that you've heard this bullshit before". Bush has lots of lame excuses for getting our country deeper in debt and taking away our rights and freedoms.
The only thing that helped me get through watching the 2004 election debates was to have a bucket of sponges nearby. I would throw one at the screen whenever Bush said something stupid or lied. My dog loved chasing the sponges. The bucket had to be refilled several times during each debate. Now our family has discovered that the local dollar store has dart guns cheap. Recently, we all took turns shooting the screen while Bush was speaking. It was great fun.
I hope you join hostess Sistwo, and all the other KosArtists who will play on Saturday Morning Political Cartoons.. I was going to introduce Sistwo tomorrow (Friday), but because a near Perfect Storm is coming my way, I might not have electricity Friday or even possibly Saturday morning. I'll come if I am not rebuilding fences or digging out from under tree branches. In the mean time, Please give SisTwo lots of mojo!
And Please do post your comments and KosArt Creations in the comment section. Well I'm off to the batten down the hatches.
