This just in: the Tripoli Six have been convicted.
In case you don't know about the Tripoli Six, you can read previous diaries on the story at the Tripoli Six tag.
As a brief summation: five Bulgarian nurses and one Palestinian doctor have been held in prison in Tripoli for six years after being accused of--and tortured into confessing to--deliberately infecting over 400 children with the HIV virus. All scientific evidence indicates that the infections were actually the result of poor hospital hygiene, but the court has refused to hear the evidence.
More below.
The Tripoli Six were originally convicted in 2004 and sentenced to death by firing squad, but a higher court ruled that the lower court revisit the case. That case has now been revisited and they have been found guilty again, using the same miscarriages of justice and same biases of evidence.
This post from scienceblogs has all the relevant information about how to take action.
I don't know if we'll be able to change the fate of the Tripoli Six, but I do know this: if they are executed, I don't want to have to look at myself in the mirror with the knowledge that I didn't do everything that was in my power to make it stop.
It really doesn't matter if you're represented by the most arch-wingnut Congressman or Senators we have. What matters is your voice. This is a bi-partisan action initiative--Instapundit has also made contributions to this effort.
PLEASE take the action steps described in the link above. And please recommend this so that others may have the chance to do the same.
Thank you.
