Anyone who comes here for any amount of time is privy - pretty much at any given time - to the great impeachment wars. I've read just about every diary on the subject, I've lauded/criticized here and there, and mostly, I've stood on the sidelines and listened, and it seems to me that a division is springing up between us, right here on this virtual patch of land where we're speaking. Now, I hate to be hasty and call it a division (it's surely not one...yet) but there's no question that if it continues this way, it surely will be, yet.
We all know the sides. The pro-impeachment camp (which I pledge myself to wholeheartedly) feels passionate about justice on the nether end of torture, extra-Constitutional maneuveres including suspension of habeas corpus the MCA, the singular case of Jose Padilla, a war based 100% on provocation - the list goes on and on, and we know it welll - and the anti-impeachment camp, well, they say, "Be pragmatic, be measured and patient, let investigations go the way they will, and if it's warranted, impeachment will happen." And there it is, the wall sprung up between us. But the positions are equivalently righteous, and if they joined, the power we'd know, the sheer muscle!
These two camps make up one stalwart defender of the experiment called "America" - you know, the experiment going down like a weighted body thrown into the ocean: real fast, real direct, real hell-bent on hitting the bottom. I think it's a test of our wills and ultimate ambitions to try and forge something common, to truly compromise, give up what can be given up but not accede to intolerable principles...we who are on each side of this impeachment question, we surely can come together and do the Lord's work, for in the end, we all want the same thing: to push a figurative lance through the rotting thing called the Bush Administration once and for all. Let us try and find a patch of land we can occupy with no distraction. Let's try and find our centers of peace.
Peace.
Note: Edit performed above because the "third camp" mention was wrong. I apologize for that, and hope that it's snide inclusion doesn't ruin the heartfelt intent of this diary. Again, apologies.
Second note: This is my last impeachment diary, without question. I'll lose my mind writing about it again. I'm driving myself mad.
