I'm not a huge fan of the Pledge of Allegiance, but I wish George Bush were.
All he talks about is freedom. We are spreading freedom across the globe. Freedom is on the move. A free Georgia. A free Iraq. A free Afghanistan.
At home, too, George talks incessantly about freedom.
Never about justice.
George, the phrase is "liberty
and justice".
Liberty AND JUSTICE!
George goes on and on about freedom because, of course, he doesn't give a good goddamn about justice. He wants everyone to be free.
Free to be filthy rich and give nothing back.
Free to be poor.
Free to have no health insurance.
Free to despoil the environment.
Free to hand out fat contracts to friends.
Free to detain and torture.
Free to save for retirement as best you can.
The phrase, Mr. President, is "liberty AND justice".
Why the Democrats don't jump all over this, I don't know.
Communism tried, wrongly, to establish justice by taking away liberty for almost everyone.
George Bush wants to establish freedom by taking away justice from almost everyone.
That's the Bush view of the Pledge of Allegiance: freedom for me and my pals to rip off everyone else--and no justice.
But that's not what the Pledge of Allegiance says.
It says
"freedom
AND
justice
FOR ALL"!!
Dammit.
