Now that we have the nation's attention and control the legislature, it is a good time to make sure that those principles that we Democrats hold dear are held up to the light so our newly elected leaders do not forget what is most important to an educated populace: continued advancement.
Progressive is more than just a social phenomenon, it is also a technical one - to be progressive means that we must progress in all areas, not just social issues. One of those areas that received much neglect by Republicans was science. If you mistake my motivation here as one of malice in pointing out an early failure of our new Democratic congress, then I'll forgive you - but if you allow this oversight to continue then you are a part of the problem as well.
Democratic party leaders have proposed freezing most agency budgets at 2006 levels for the rest of fiscal 2007. Their plan is to pass a continuing resolution on federal spending that lasts until the fiscal year expires on Sept. 30, 2007.-Link
