If you need a reminder of why getting out every Democratic vote is so very, very important, look at Washington State: This week, the legislature passed a bill barring discrimination against gays and lesbians in hiring, housing, and elsewhere. Gov. Christine Gregoire will sign the legislation next week.
Gregoire, you may recall, was declared governor in early 2005 only after months of recounts and court battles. Finally, she was declared governor by a margin of only a few votes.
Would the new law be vetoed had she lost? I can't say, but there's no question that the good guys wouldn't have had enough votes to overcome a veto!
So thank you, anonymous extra handful of Democrats who voted in November 2004. Your vote is being counted again this week on the side of civil rights and justice in Washington!
