Ford's decision to pardon Nixon after Watergate, so divisive at the time that it probably cost Ford the 1976 election, was dealt with squarely Saturday in funeral services by Dick Cheney, the current vice president who was Ford's chief of chief.
"It was this man, Gerald R. Ford, who led our republic safely though a crisis that could have turned to catastrophe," said Cheney, speaking in the Rotunda where Ford's body rested. "Gerald Ford was almost alone in understanding that there can be no healing without pardon."
Ah yes, the Reverend Dick Cheney preaching to us about the holy, cleansing, healing, redemptive virtues of pardon.
Yep, Reverend Cheney is sooo right here, just like at Nuremberg, where we pardoned all the Nazi top brass, so we could then all go "heal".
Er, excuse me, wait a minute.... Well, I guess that we didn't do that at Nuremberg after all.
Actually, at Nuremberg,
We mostly hanged them.
(see more below.)
Uh, like, does anybody else see Dick Cheney here trying to set the stage and frame in a positive light the wave of Bush pardons to come, including the pardon of Dick Cheney himself, for the many years of massive Bush/Cheney treason, theft, & deceit?
Well well, so the bushies figured out a way to self-servingly politically use even the Ford funeral.
Update: Why I strongly think that Cheney will resign.
It is really sorta simple. First off, Cheney is as guilty as he** of committing the worst of the worst illegalities & treason & deceit of this admin, no debate there.
This will all become evident to the whole nation via the Dem congressional hearings. As a consequence, Cheney will become such a political liability for the entire GOP that they will privately AND publically start to call for Cheney's resignation.
And that's how it will go down.
Update 2: Based on the input below, I want to now add that the early resignation of Cheney would be an excellent way to give John McCain (& the entire GOP) a leg up for 2008, by Bush appointing McCain as his VP, in 2007.
This seems to me to be a real no-brainer for the entire GOP to push for, to force Cheney out and force McCain in as Bush's VP in 2007.
It makes real political sense; therefore, it is likely to happen.
