At the start of the day, the partisan breakdown of the US House was:
228 Republicans
204 Democrats
1 Independent (who caucuses with the Democrats)
That means we need 14 seats to retake control of the House.
Complicating matters, the Texas redistricting was designed to give the GOP an extra five seats (and as many as seven). So let's assume we're down 20 seats. That's a pretty big hill to climb.
And the first step was today:
98 percent of districts reporting
Chandler (D): 54.6
Kerr (R): 43.6
This wasn't just a victory. It was a mauling. Of Kerr, of McConnel, of Bush. And in Bush country no less.
And we ALL made it happen. From the cash, to the volunteers on the ground, to the good vibes.
Now it's onward to South Dakota and Louisiana. Let's get this down to a 17-seat race come November.
Update: AP/CBS' take on the matter: "Ky. Vote May Signal Nation's Mood"
Damn right it's a signal.
