I'd like to see some feedback on the basic question of what Democrats stand for regarding the current situation in Iraq... beyond simply being the anti-Bush at all turns... Whether his solution is proper or not, Tom Friedman makes a good point today. The implicit message is that whoever can step up and actually lead on the issue is bound to draw praise -- and possible election victories..
A couple of blurbs from his piece:
"Well, we need to talk about Iraq. This is no time to give up - this is still winnable - but it is time to ask: What is our strategy? ......"
"Maybe it is too late, but before we give up on Iraq, why not actually try to do it right? Double the American boots on the ground and redouble the diplomatic effort to bring in those Sunnis who want to be part of the process and fight to the death those who don't."
