Names and details have been changed to protect the innocent.
I have a question from you all. Is Daily Kos a country club, or are we a force for change? Kos has made his position clear.
This is a Democratic blog, a partisan blog. One that recognizes that Democrats run from left to right on the ideological spectrum, and yet we're all still in this fight together.
Yesterday in a diary posted by a volunteer trying to raise money for an ad that a campain was raising money for, was heckled with the following comment.
It is inappropriate to be asking for donations (ESPECIALLY such sizeable ones) for an 'external' entity at the same time YearlyKos is also in need and requesting financial assistance.
Kos's position on this is clear, this is a partisan blog whose purpose is to elect Democrats, and what really bothers me is that as the community grows, it seems like that is increasingly being lost.
When we have candidates and campaigns who come here, and take the time to respond to questions and comments, we shouldn't be driving them off. Dialogue is that essence of what makes blogs unique, it's the potential to reform the Democratic party.
Daily Kos isn't a country club, but we do have to fight efforts to turn this community into nothing more than debating club.
Yearly Kos deserves your support, but that shouldn't crowd out people who are running for office, and looking to the communty for support.
[Update] I see that the Snark Brigades have come out.
I'll rephrase, is it appropriate to for candidates (Not listed by Kos) to be asking for money while Yearly Kos is fundraising? Is it appropriate for candidates (or campaign volunteers) to ask for contributions now? Is it inappropriate for to ask for donations for a campaign in a diary?
