Our story thus far...
I got up at 6am saturday to make it to Mason City and catch Dean at a pancake breakfast. I was a bit late, but got t-shirts signed for my kids, got my picture taken with the Doc, and found out the guy in the giant Deanie Baby suit was a former co-worker. After getting the picture done, i realized i could have made rabbit ears on him! But i get two more chances to see Dean before monday, and i'll do my best to get another picture with me, the Doc, and my fingers wiggling over his head. If i get it, i'll post here!
When i got to the Storm Center in Cedar Rapids, i realized i'd left my coat (and scarf and gloves) in Mason City. Shit! But instead of driving back to get it, i went out canvassing in just a sweater and the highly collectable bright orange cap. It was okay until 6pm or so, although the canvassing was depressing. We were in a poor, mostly elderly neighborhood of Cedar Rapids. Most of the elderly refused to go caucus at all, for anyone. Most of the rest were Gephardt or Kerry supporters. (my favorite was the elderly lady who was for Kerry or - what's his name - Gearhart?) We worked on a few waiverers, though. The good news was that the enthusiastic Dean supporters tended to be people who haven't done this before - with a solid GOTV effort to remind them, i think Dean's turnout will be far higher than expected.
Afterwards, i bought a coat for 75% off at Target, which will get me though the rest of the weekend, so i can pick up my good coat on the way back, had a nice dinner, and crashed.
Tonight - if all works well, i drag a Kucinich supporter friend to see Dean with Joan Jett and Janeane Garafalo, in the room where i got married!
