I believe the current Rove tactic is inspire more fear. Did you notice last nights media coverage of sex offenders opening doors to Halloween trick or treaters? Yet Halloween is a time when we are safer on streets, for there is so many people out.
I think we are this forum can make a difference by publishing in local elists and in local newspapers. Lets call the Mass Media on the fear campaign and lets put forth a campaign of courage! Here is my note:
American women have had the right to vote less than a hundred years. So when I vote,
I reminded that I hold incredible power. True that votes can be mis-counted, but
that too speaks to the power of voting. When you hear of elaborate schemes to make
people wait in lines, to make voter registration difficult or to make people not
want to vote, truly you should feel that voting is strength. I vote. I have power.
Vote = Power.
More after the fold:
A strong campaign of fear and dissatisfaction is now being waged at every political
level. The current Republicans having been revealed as corrupt incompetent politicians
are trying to tell you that every politician is the same. That is a lie! Minnesota
has had great politicians, from every party who have invested our taxes and resources
wisely. Whatever you think of what Governor Ventura said, his political actions
were thoughtful and wise. The Republican governors frequently led the way in fiscal
responsibility and education. I personally think that we had one of the bravest
and courageous senators in Paul Wellstone. If you read the speeches of Senator Dayton,
you would also find bold noble leadership. The media does not cover the brave deeds
of current heroes, but the actions and speeches are there if you look for them.
So today when we look at the campaign for mayor, we are looking for the BETTER candidate
for mayor. When I tried to give my reasons for who I am voting for, I was making
the distinctions between them that cause me to choose one candidate. I do believe
in looking at campaigns across the country, that we in Minnesota are blessed with
better choices. Yet no candidate is perfect, so it is up to us to use the power
of our vote to make the best choice.
As a voter and decision maker, it is time that we stay constantly informed and constantly
involved. If indeed we feel that the Chamber of Commerce has more influence, then
we should work to have that same influence. What if someone on this list wrote about
every meeting and action of the city government? What if everyone on this list then
wrote at least one letter for every issue? What if at least once a year each one
of us spoke at a meeting or called the mayor? What if we reach out and communicate
directly to the Chamber of Commerce, for we share the common dream of healthy community
friendly economy. Indeed if we could work together, we could prevent big box retail
from destroying Grand Av and build transportation that enhances community instead
of dividing it.
We can no longer depend on local media to report what we need to hear. Regular
news has become a form of entertainment candy instead of real knowledge. We as individuals
can report to each other here in these forums and make a difference. Perhaps we
can start a trend.
The power is in what each one of us does.
