Can someone please comment on the malpractice aspect of this case? I find it odd that here we have a president touring the country advocating capping jury awards for malpractice at $250,000 after having signed a bill in Texas that says we pull the plug when you run out of cash... How do these things add up?
Would Mrs. Schiavo have been better served by this arrangement, having spent about $80,000 yearly on hospice care, running out of money and getting all her tubes yanked regardless of her end of life wishes, circa 1994?
She was apparently awarded about $2 million which is being kept in a trust earmarked for her care. Would this scenario even be possible under GWB's beloved Tort Reform? Perhaps this is a different type of jury award, I admit I don't know all the details of GWB's tort reform proposals, somebody please straighten me out...
I agree with Mrs. Schiavo and I'm glad that her wishes are finally being respected. If I were in that situation I suspect the only thing worse than having congress step in to tell me how I'm allowed to die would be a hospital pulling my plug before my family is ready because the doctor who's negilgence put me in the hospital is protected from having to pay for his mistakes.
Furthermore, the so called "doctors" who are torturing the poor Schindler family telling them their daughter is fine and can walk again should be barred from practice and fined heavily. These people are vultures.
