Looking at Peggy Lamm's fundraising reports for the 1st quarter of 2006, she raised a good bit more than what she did last quarter, 160,000 compare to 70,000. But, taking a closer look, 150,000 dollars of that came from Emily's List, I'm wondering why Emily's List Endorsed Peggy Lamm of all people.
Perlmutter may, or may not be pro-life. I don't know. But, that's not the point. Emily's List is an organization that gives money to Democratic, Pro-Choice Woman, I can't understand why they would be endorsing and raising money for Lamm. That in itself if one of the reasons I can't stand Single Issue groups, of any kind.
Now, some of you may already know that I am Pro-Life, but that is not what this is about. If Emily's list hadn't have endorsed Lamm, more money would have flown into Perlmutter's warchest. His report signified that he raised less than the previous quarter, one of the only people in the nation to do this. 186,000 dollars down from 199,000 dollars last quarter. This primary is single handedly stifling our chances to win this seat. Gore won it by less than a percentage point in 2000, Kerry won it by 3 percentage points in 2004, and the number of registered Democrats is leaving that of the Republicans in the dust. Now, it's looking like we're on a fast track to losing it because we can't unite, and a Single Issue group is making the primary more divisive than it ever was before.
To continue on that thread, it's hard to understand why Emily's list would want to waste it's money fighting other Demcorats in the Primary. I would like to criticize Emily's List for this unnecessarily hurting a Democrat. I mean, shoudln't they be trying to spend all of their money and resources beating Republicans.
Then there's Peggy Lamm herself. She's an extremely, extremely conservative Democratic State Representative who does not actually live in the district, but only votes there. She's been called obnoxious, rude, and unlikeable on the net. The only claim to fame that she has is being the sister-in-law of a governor who left office twenty four years ago.
Then there's also the issue, why endorse Peggy Lamm. She may say she's pro-choice, but here's some info. She openly endorsed Bush in 2004, openly endorsed anti-choice conservative GOP Governor Bill Owens in 2002, (who just pissed this pro-life dem off by refusing to sign a bill forcing pharmacies to carry the morning after pill), and in 2004 she also openly endorsed and campaigned for a few REPUBLICAN State Representatives the Democrats were trying to beat to take the Colorado State House of Representatives. Why is she worthy of Pro-Choice money, or any Democratic money. She really is, just a DINO. It makes me mad, because either Emily's List didn't do their homework, or did it and decided she was Pro-Choice enough to waste money smearing Ed Perlmutter on.
This whole thing is ridiculous. That money should have gone to fighting a Republican, not a Democrat. It should certainly not have gone to a Democrat like Peggy Lamm who was so anti-labor in the House that every union in the district has endorsed Perlmutter over O'Donnell and Lamm. Sometimes Emily's List, and all Single Issue groups, piss us off. Partly because they just fail to see the bigger picture, or are not always helpful.
Now, before I finish up, I'll tell you a little bit about Ed Perlmutter the other Democratic Candidate. Ed Perlmutter is a life long resident of the district. When he served as a State Senator, he actually represented a large chunk of the District, unlike Lamm who represents practically none of it. He was elected to the Colorado State Senate in 1995, becoming the first Democrat to represent his central Jefferson County District in 30 years. Unlike Lamm, he helped Democrats in their Elections. In 2000, Perlmutter lead the team of Democrats that helped them takeover the Colorado State Senate for the first time since JFK was in the Whitehouse. This contrasts a lot with Lamm doesn't it, who campaigned for Republicans in 2004. Anyway, Perlmutter served two terms in the State Senate, leaving in 2003. During that time period he had many impressive accomplishments. The biggest being Elected President Pro Tem of the Senate during the 2001 to 2002 session. The next President Pro Tem a lot of you probably already know, Stan Matsunaka. Anyway again, despite all of this Perlmutter isn't very old, and if elected, could probably serve for about 20 years. I don't know this for sure, but I'm guessing it must be true, but Perlmutter is pro-life, I've never read that anywhere, but it's the only reason I can think of for Emily's List endorsing Lamm. Still, pretty impressive candidate huh.
The 7th is the nations premier swing district. One third of the District is Registered Republican, One third is registered Democrat, an One third is registered Independant.
Well, I guess that's about all that I can say about that. Disclaimer: ArkDem14 has no emotion or soul and always supports the Stronger candidate except in drastic circumstances.
