Hey everybody, I've been kind of light on my Kossing ever since election day. If you don't mind I'd like to catch up by presenting a little digest of my personal opinions on the events of the past few weeks. If you do mind, please refrain from complaining in my comments bin, just email me your address and I'll come over to your house to fight you.
Topic 1. The Election: What Happened? They whupped us. We didn't fuck up, but neither did they. They played their game the way we expected, hard, dirty, efficient. And they executed. We always knew beating Mr. 9/11 was going to be hard. I think we should come away from this knowing that we have a strong, capable base to build on. Our strong showing at the state level and the emergence of a bona fide superstar in Barack Obama are really good things which we should be really excited about.
Topic 2. Voter Fraud This is the bottom line for me: I will only believe and get upset by claims of voter fraud if the evidence is so overwhelming that George W. Bush admits defeat and resigns. Honestly, if Bev Harris manages to win back the White House for John Kerry, whom we all admit lost the popular vote by millions, through some controversial, technicality court decision, I as a registered Democrat who is on public record as having donated money to the Democratic party would fear for my personal safety. This would be all the reason these crazy fuckers would need to stage a full on millitary coup. So, if something's screwy about the election, please look into it, and when you have rock solid proof come back and we'll talk. Untill then don't get pissed at me or call me a pussy because I'm not willing to "fight" for this. Whatever that means.
Topic 3. What next?I don't know. I guess I'm pretty much in the "keep doin' what we're doin' and we'll win next time" camp. I think our organization needs to get a lot tighter. It was awesome how many first timers got involved this cycle, but we could use a few more wily veterans and old pros. Decentralized is cool, disorganized is bad. I think our nominee in 2008 should be very good on the superficials: teeth, speaking style, good looking family, tall, etc. They need to come from either the west or the midwest and have a very compelling life's story (war hero, fire fighter, cancer survivor, astronaut,etc.). We need an action figure and a folk hero. Policy wonks and technocrats need not apply.
Topic 4. The Messsage I think all the talk about grand narratives and coherent messages and positive agendas is great and all, but I think our first order of business should be learning how to go negative. Is it just me, or is Bush's sucess not do in large part to the incredibly effective work of right-wing propagandists to make around 51% of the country to absolutely hate and despise Democrats and liberals. My right-wing boss refuses to call the democrats. He drops the "socialism"-bomb constanly. We could use a little more of that. I think our first order of business should be to never ever use the word Conservative when referring to the Bushies. I say either "fascist" (You heard, me, go ahead. You've only got four more years to freely drop the F-bomb. Relish it.) or at least "right-wing". It's "Bush and his right-wing colleagues in Congress..." and "I think America has had enough of George W. Bush and his fasict agenda".
Topic 5. Dean for DNC? Sure. I'm all for it, but I think it might be a mistake. I think it's a coin toss whether we need a media darling super-star or a boring administrator who'll get shit in order and stay out of the spotlight. I'm also 50/50 as to whether I like Dean free and independent of the party or taking it over and rebuilding it from the inside. I guess I'd say I'm for it now, but I could be convinced otherwise. I really don't know anything about most of the other nominees so...
Topic 6. FallujahI thought Bill O'Reilly said he'd sign up to secure Fallujah. Email Bill@billoreilly.com and ask him when he ships out.
And I guess that about catches me up. Am I forgetting anything? Still no opinion on the Laci Peterson trial....uh, I'm not impressed by Desperate Housewives...SNL still sucks...I'm eagerly looking forward to the R.Kelly/Jay-Z pepper-spray trial...and I'm afraid Mary Kate has relapsed and I think that's a shame.
Okay, I'm done.
