You may recall yesterday that I wrote about a new law going into effect tomorrow in Ohio requiring anyone seeking government employment in the state of Ohio or anyone seeking to do business with the state to fill out a Declaration of Material Assistance/Non-Assistance to a Terrorist Organization.
Well, I've had a day to think about this, and I still can't wrap my mind around how mind-bogglingly stupid this whole concept is!
So I decided to research it a little on the web. Here's how Ian Ross, strategic planner for the Ohio Department of Homeland Security, defends the law:
(Article from www.theathensnews.com)
"Ross said that it is also a way to revoke the licenses of people who work with government agencies that are involved with terrorist organizations. The new law also backs up federal legislation dealing with terrorists, he said.
'You'd hope they'd answer truthfully,' Ross said when asked about why anyone would admit to being a terrorist on a job application.
'It's a requirement written into the certification, you're supposed to answer truthfully,' Ross said. If people knowingly make false statements about being terrorists on a job applications, they could be charged with fifth-degree felonies, he added."
(Full article here: http://www.athensnews.com/...)
Golly gee! The law says you have to answer truthfully! That ought to make sure nobody answers falsely!
And if someone does lie about being a terrorist, they could be charged with a fifth-degree felony. Apparently because lying on a government form is a more serious offense than, say, walking into a crowded shopping mall and setting off a vest of explosives.
I swear I'm not making this shit up! I wish I was!
How can something like this happen in this day and age? Has the entire state of Ohio truthfully grown so stupid that they actually think this is a good idea?
If so, then I fear for the future of this country!
