Democratic presidential candidate John
Edwards
failed to submit
enough signatures to make it on the ballot in Rhode Island.
Secretary of State Matthew Brown said that Edwards had
only 918 valid signatures, with 321 questionable. Brown, a
Democrat, ruled Edwards ineligible last Friday.
The Edwards campaign appealed, and the Rhode Island Board
of Elections met Wednesday to review the decision.
An additional 55 signatures were approved, leaving Edwards
27 short of the necessary 1,000 to appear on the March 2 primary
ballot.
Barring interference by the Rhode Island Supreme Court,
Edwards won't appear on the ballot.
