Well
yesterday I wrote about the Church of Flying Spaghetti Monster. Unfortunatly, the IDers are today able to
claim victory in their campaign of making American stupid in front of the world's scientific community.
Risking the kind of nationwide ridicule it faced six years ago, the Kansas Board of Education approved new public-school science standards Tuesday that cast doubt on the theory of evolution.
The 6-4 vote was a victory for "intelligent design" advocates who helped draft the standards. Intelligent design holds that the universe is so complex that it must have been created by a higher power.
Now many people may say that I am not being respective of their religious beliefs, I say BULLSHIT. If you want religion taught in school, enroll your kid in a religious school. I have, and oddly my kids will get a more sound science education there than they will in Kansas or any other public school district that allows ID to be taught.
Atleast one school board member in Kansas say the problem with this.
"This is a sad day. We're becoming a laughingstock of not only the nation, but of the world, and I hate that," said board member Janet Waugh, a Kansas City Democrat.
A recent study found that the US could lose its competitive advantage if science and math is not stressed more in the US.
Some of its findings -
¶Last year, more than 600,000 engineers graduated from institutions of higher education in China, compared to 350,000 in India and 70,000 in the United States.
¶Recently, American 12th graders performed below the international average for 21 countries on general knowledge in math and science.
¶The cost of employing one chemist or engineer in the United States is equal to about five chemists in China and 11 engineers in India.
¶Chemical companies last year shut 70 facilities in the United States and marked 40 for closure. Of 120 large chemical plants under construction globally, one is in the United States and 50 are in China.
Please note that the other reason that you can hire more Chinese and Indian scientists and engineers is that there are more of them.
And not to sound like Thomes Friedman -
"Thanks to globalization," the report said, "workers in virtually every sector must now face competitors who live just a mouse-click away in Ireland, Finland, China, India or dozens of other nations whose economies are growing."
So this is what I suggestion to make Kansas and all other school district that are thinking of doing this reconsider.
Any student that comes out of a school district that teaches ID as a scientific theory will not be allowed to enroll in an University or College that does not want to lose its Accreditation. In other words, that your students did not going through a generally accepted scientific curriculm, we don't believe they are ready to attend the halls of this nationally (and worldly) cherished institution.
The moment that upper and middle class parents realize that the chance of their little Timmy going to college are in jeopardy if they live in Kansas (or other said school district), you will see the meltdown of the very economic fabric of the state or area. When highpaying TAXPAYERS start leaving, they are screwed. Talk about Evolution, or in this case - Devolution
This is war folks, the war of ideas and the future of the American Way of Life. I am not going to see the country I love, become the dumbass center of the universe. So I see this as a good tactic.
