I finally went shopping today - sort of.
This is a cheap cop out but, I bought a bunch of "gift cards".
The upside, ease, portability, everyone can buy what they want.
The downside, everyone knows no thought went into it - and their value to you is clearly announced - you darling brother, are worth $100 at Barnes & Noble.
In my defense let me say - I'm Jewish.
Non-practicing, could care less, basically in agreement with everything Jesus said anyhow, oh well. I'll have the BLT.
My brothers both married "goys". Each year, all the Jews go to my brother Rick's house and celebrate Christmas together.
Compleat with gift exchange and ham.
I kind of like it, and I love that my family, even my 82 year old folks like it too. There may be hope for humanity - I feel lucky, my family are a good bunch - not without their quirks, but a good bunch.
So, Christmas celebrations are basically Pagan, but what's wrong with a little paganism now and then?
It's all about consumerism. Everyone knows this.
But still, there I was, on line at Bed, Bath, and Beyond - buying gift cards. It's the "Beyond" part that gets me, just the hope of something more than bed and bath was enough for me to whip out the old MasterCard.
Tell me a Christmas story and take the poll.
