It's well known that the lower your User ID, the longer you've been registered here. But, can we get more specific than that? I'd like to find out, and, as a fringe benefit, chart the growth of the dkos readership over the last few years.
For the last 13 months, jotter's incredibly-useful "high-impact diaries" series has tracked the maximum user ID. Here's what that looks like:
That's growth at the rate of roughly 100 people per day, every day, over the course of a year. If growth continues at this rate, the 100K mark will be crossed sometime in September. Note, by the way, that jotter's data is daily going all the way back; I typed in the dailies for 2006, but did weekly-ish for 2005.
Now, let's look at the impact of YearlyKos on registration. Here's the same graph, but zoomed in to look at the last 6 weeks:
The lower panel of that graph shows the registration rate, new users/day. I think it's safe to say that YearlyKos had a bit of an effect on the registration rate...
Finally, we come to the part where everyone can help fill out the graph:
Right now, there's one lonely blue point on that graph. That's me, at October 30, 2004. So, if you know your registration date, please chime up and help fill in the graph. It'd be most helpful if you know the exact date. If you're a data packrat like me, you probably still have the confirmation e-mail sent after you registered; it has the subject line "Welcome to Daily Kos". If you only have an approximate date ("Spring 2005"), that's fine as well.
Update [2006-6-13 9:4:16 by dmsilev]: No longer a lonely point. Thanks, folks. Keep 'em coming.
Update [2006-6-13 9:47:10 by dmsilev]:: Nicely filled-out graph. The overall shape is now pretty clear
Update [2006-6-13 17:43:31 by dmsilev]: One more graph for your viewing pleasure: DailyKos, the early months
I'll try to keep updating the graph over the lifetime of this diary.
By the way, if you don't know your User ID, just post a comment. The UID is put in the link for each comment.
Thanks for your help.
