The 2006 election is fast approaching, and we need a multi faceted plan on how to take back Congress(so we can impeach Bush ,take back the government, put this nightmare to bed and start the healing process). There have to be multiple fronts to divert the GOP's attentions. One follows:
Get a referendum on the ballot in every Red State with a large Blue minority ( FL TX VA,AZ,NV), that changes the all or nothing electoral count to a formula similar to Maine or Nebraska, a district split of electoral vote as opposed to a state split If even 1/3 of the states where it was put on the ballot voted for this in 2006, effective for 2008, we would have suddenly added a lot more electoral votes to the Blue column where before there was nothing.
We would also:
1. Energize a base in a Red State that normally feels helpless. We need lots of energized pissed off people to show up in 2006 to Take Back The Congress(which should be the slogan for 2006)(a sort of storm The Bastille theme) and one way to get them to the polls is to get an initiative on the ballot that promises to make their vote count.
- Gets the petition signers out in the next few months to build the momentum, build teams, organizations, databases..
- Starts sagebrush rebellions throughout the Red States. They suddenly have the restless masses in the cities getting organized. They will have to spend money in every state there is an initiative.... Counter commercials, etc. What can they say? Its evil? They did it in Texas. We just want to redistrict the Electoral College. We need to make the large blue vote in Red States count. This is how to do it. Maine and Nebraska already had it. Remember in the last election when people where holding their breath when Maine may have went partially red? And Bush was smoozing the lumberjacks? Maine has 4 electoral votes. FL 27. The Dems do better off in every state. The Blue states have larger cities to start out with, so we would loose less then we would gain, and thats assuming every state went that way. Bush campaigned in that marginal district in Maine for 1 vote, If Florida had the district vote in place in 2000 Gore would be president todayt. This is one way to take back the country and one of the many fronts to start an attack on.. Referendums to split the electoral vote so in 2008, whole new areas of the country that before didn't count, now do. Places like South Florida, Las Vega, Phoeniz, Northern Virgina, and so on suddenly become very important to the Democrats vote count, without regard to the rest of the state.
Republicans have sucessfully used initiatives to rally their base, and its time we follow a sucessful formula. If we can divide the Red State vote, we can win.
