On PBS Newshour last night, they had a segment on 527s. They mostly showed Democratic groups, but they briefly showed the offices of a GOP organisation. On the wall were six colour-coded US maps. I was able to pause the picture and study it, and I'd like to get your feedback as to what you think they are up to.
(Some of the borders may not be exact, as these maps were small...and I'm not sure about HI on any map)
Map 1
Blue: ND, SD, MN, WI, NE, KS, OK, IA
Pink: everything west of Blue, plus TX and AK
Red: MI, IL, IN, OH, WV, PA, maybe NJ
Yellow: everything northeast of Red
Green: the rest (basically the Southeast plus MO)
Map 2
Maroon: ME, NH, VT, maybe CT, RI, MA
Lt. Green: rest of Atlantic seaboard (but not FL)
Dk. Green: FL, TN, KY, AR, LA, AL, MS
Red: MO, KS, IA, MN, WI, IL, MI and it looks like OH and WV
Yellow: ND, SD, NE, CO, AZ, NM, OK, TX
Blue: CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, UT, AK

Lt. Green: WA, OR, CA, AZ, AK, ID
Pink: NV, UT, CO, NM, WY, MT, SD
Blue: ND, MN, WI, MI, IL...maybe OH and the Northeast too?
Orange: IA, NE, KS, OK, TX, MO, AR
Green: LA, AL, MS, GA, FL
Yellow: TN, KY, WV, VA, NC, SC

Lt. Green: CA
Grey(?): IA, MO, IL, WI, MI, IN, OH, PA, NJ and all points north of NJ
Blue: TX east to VA and all points SE of Grey
Red: everything else--a big wide swath from WA to MN in the north, tapering to AZ & NM in the south, plus AK
