I guess hindsight is 20/20, but seeing as he got blown out by Kerry anyway, I wish I'd just voted for Dean. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably do the same thing, hoping against all odds that enough people would come to their senses. I never thought Edwards was a great candidate (and I still don't), but my overwhelming aversion to Kerry outweighed my support for Dean.
I still think the Democratic primary process this time has proved to be a farce. After winning Iowa Kerry's nationwide support went from 9% to 50%. Seeing that just totally invalidates the primary in my mind. In the future we need to come up with a better system with balanced regional voting. Iowa is a poor test for any candidate running for President. They aren't mainstream, or even middle of the road. But, thanks to the overwhelming stupidity of the party elite, I guess we can expect to keep Iowa for the next 20 years, while they produce losing candidate after losing candidate.
I make no bones about it, I think Kerry is a crappy candidate and I have no intention of reconciling myself to him. He has no charisma and no real character, and I fully expect him to lose (he, along with Gephardt and Lieberman were the three major candidates I believed incapable of defeating Bush). Really that's the only thing I liked more about Edward than Kerry, he was at least a charismatic liar. So, I will reconcile myself instead to accepting four more years of Bush.
My advice to all the neo-Kerryites: don't defend him too hard, because you're not going to enjoy vomiting it all back up come November.
