Those words are from Jesse Jackson's speech this afternoon to the closing (tasty) lunch at the Take Back America Conference. He was referring to the gap between Kerry and Bush's foreign policies, He's right -- nothing fired up this crowd more than agressive opposition to the war from Pelosi and Jackson.
Also, look at Bush's approval ratings. They've
plummeted -- not over the economy. The economy, while
hurting, is
showing signs of growth over the past few months. In fact, if job growth remains strong, Bush can claim a strong economy heading into the election (which is probably part of the supply side strategy).
All this suggests to me that, despite CW, foreign policy can really win this election for progressives. I know we love to talk about kitchen table issues and butter over guns, but a unified, progressive, agressive foreign policy agenda could do wonders for progressives running nationwide.
What would such a vision look like? I'll have some thoughts over the weekend. Let's start the discussion below.
