Lois Herr is running in the PA 16th district to defeat one of Bush's Butt Boys, Joe Pitts. She finally has her website up and running, although with her Campaign Issues page is not available. I just contributed my first $250, and if I win the Kossacks Hoops Challenge, all my "winnings" will be going to her campaign.
Here is her open letter:
Dear Friend,
We are in the midst of a war, we have alienated our world allies, and the country's deficit is the highest it has been in years. Our friends find themselves unemployed or underemployed as job growth lags the economic upswing. Our government is faltering under the control of special interest groups, and our country's job base is moving overseas.
In this next election, we need to fight back and reclaim our jobs, protect our civil rights, ensure that our seniors are cared for, invest in our children's education properly, and support smart growth in our communities. We need to oust the leaders who have been piling up debt and squandering global goodwill. I feel very passionately about these issues and it is why I am seeking a seat in the 16th District of the House of Representatives. I want to be the one fighting for opportunities that benefit all of us.
Last summer, after leaving my Elizabethtown College marketing position, I found myself absorbed in the Presidential race. I looked into moveon.org, and meetup.com, eventually traveling to New Hampshire and Iowa to play a small volunteer role in the process. In January, I realized that I could make a major impact as a candidate myself. Things happened quickly after that. The Lancaster County Democrats endorsed me, wonderful people volunteered to work on my campaign, and countless friends and relatives urged me on.
The 16th district, traditionally a Republican stronghold, is now represented by Joseph Pitts, one of the most conservative Bush-followers in the House. However, this year is different. Bush and Pitts do not have a sure thing this time around. Disaffected Republicans and energized Democrats can make this an extraordinary year. Challenging this incumbent is an expensive process.
I see an opportunity for us to have a voice in our Government again. My contribution now is to spend my time working to bring accountability and caring back to Government. My experience in business, government, and education provides a great base for tackling difficult issues and working with others to achieve a better society. Please support my candidacy for the U. S. House of Representatives.
Sincerely,
Lois K. Herr
