A GENOCIDE. A tragedy beyond human comprehension... but not beyond the grasp of our voices, our hearts, and our action. Please read how you can be a witness to the Genocide in Darfur, and lend your voice to ENDING it.
More below.
BE A WITNESS
Genocide is happening right before our eyes, and we are allowing millions of HUMAN BEINGS TO DIE.
The media in this country wears blinders.
So called elected officials give us promises.
WHERE is the action?
The link above will lead you to an introduction you must see, and a page that will allow you to send a message to:
CNN
FOX NEWS
NBC/MSNBC
ABC
CBS
It will allow you to be a witness to the GENOCIDE in Darfur and ask the media in this country to stop wearing blinders... to be human... to give us truth... and to help us bring action, justice, and an end to it.
It won't cost you anything.
You won't even have to leave your chair.
And it won't interfere with anything else you have to do.
And above all, it is doing something IMPORTANT to let your voice be heard.
And if you really want your voice to be heard and can get there, there is a rally in Washington DC this Sunday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Jan,
This Sunday, April 30th, thousands of activists will come together in Washington, DC, to call for an end to the genocide in Darfur and demand that a multinational peacekeeping force protect the lives of civilians. Organized by the Save Darfur coalition, this rally will attract national media attention and compel our government to act.
Join Gayle Smith, Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, and dozens of other speakers, including Academy Award winner George Clooney and Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel:
SAVE DARFUR: Rally to Stop Genocide
When: April 30, 2006
Program: 2:00 - 4:30 pm (Crowd Assembly 1:30 - 2:00 pm)
Where: Washington, DC, National Mall, between 3rd and 4th Streets in front of the US Capitol
Metro Station: Federal Center SW, on the Orange and Blue Lines
Learn more about the rally here: Save Darfur Rally
If you are unable to make it to DC, you can look up rallies in your area or sign up for the Virtual March to End the Genocide in Darfur organized by MoveOn.org. All the signatures will be delivered to the President and Congress, and several of the comments will be read at the DC rally.
We would also like to congratulate New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, who recently won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Through his columns, Mr. Kristof has done more than any other journalist to bring media attention to the atrocities in Darfur. We applaud his commitment to inform and inspire the American public and his continued efforts to end the genocide.
Hope to see you on Sunday,
Brian Komar, Center for American Progress Action Fund, for the entire Be A Witness team
I don't have all the answers. I do however, know I cannot sit here and do NOTHING. I sent a letter to the ICC about a month ago, but nothing. I've mailed my representatives, but no action. I have taken part in BE A WITNESS, and I believe it can truly make a difference if enough people add their voices.
It isn't a matter of having a choice. PEOPLE ARE BEING SLAUGHTERED. There is no choice in this, only duty.
Please then do all you can to let your voice be heard on this topic.
We must END the Genocide in Darfur, and bring those responsible to justice.
Spread the word.
Thank you.
