The Guardian ran a story a couple of hours ago saying that Ahmad Chalabi was offering to testify before the Senate. Anyone care to take him up on that?
Of course, I highly doubt we would get truthful answers to anything important out of him, but it would make for an interesting evening newscast, to say the least. I'm guessing Republicans will try to talk him out of it...
But whether he goes to Capitol Hill or not, someone needs to ask him about this story which appeared in the prominent London-based Arabic newspaper, Asharq al-Awsat, to the effect that he's
back to colluding with the Iranians against other Shi'ite politicians and Ayatollah Sistani:
The Iranian source pointed out that Al Chalabi managed to convince the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadi Najad and his powerful senior consultant, Hashemi Shamra, that he is the only one capable of scheduling the American -British withdrawal from Iraq and that he enjoys the confidence and respect on behalf of Washington, in addition to the fact that his presence on top of the Iraqi government would noticeable shrink Washington's worries against the expansion of the Iranian influence. Meanwhile, Tehran knows quite well that Al Chalabi would not turn into an enemy as his relations with the Iranian regime are strong, old and shall not be affected with any political storms or changes in the current alliances in Iraq.
When AEI and the President of Iran agree on something, that probably means one or the other of them is in the process of getting punk'd -- my bet is on AEI and the neocons...
