The Honorable John Conyers and (according to various reports) about 30-something Democratic Senators and Congressmen/Congresswomen (and a flood of cameras and photographers) had to crowd into a "basement closet" for the recent 'faux' hearings on the DSM.
Why? The majority party-poopers, the Republican Leadership, denied them the use of a Senate Office for their little get-together.
But in March of 2004 it was perfectly acceptable to use a the Dirksen Senate Office Building to hold a ceremony, during which Sun Myung Moon was crowned (purportedly) as the Messiah????
I may be insane, but is this Bizzaro World, or what???
There were numerous stories about the Sun Myung Moon affair in the Dirksen Senate building last year, some with pictures. I remember reading one in the New York Times. The Gadflyer still has this post Moon Over Washington available, it has all the details.
What I Want to Know, to quote my favorite guy, Howard Dean, is what the hell is wrong with the American Press.
Is this, or isn't this news? I'm sick to death of reading (and watching) what passes for 'News' in this country. It isn't news. It's gossip.
What were the big stories of the last week?
Tom Cruise and his latest antics with Katie Holmes & Scientology
News? NO. Gossip.
Michael Jackson was found not guilty.
News? NO, at this point it's hardly even gossip, gossip should be interesting. Michael is just an old, sad tale of a guy that was once a pretty good musician, and is now just a freak. Sorry, Mike.
Now, whether a reporter chooses to write how important or not the DSM story, in and of itself is, that is one thing. Personally, I find it highly encouraging in that it tells us that those in the highest circles of British politics had some idea that the Bush Tale of Iraqi Menace was not quite on the up-and-up during the year 2002.
But to ignore the fact that refusing Democratic Congress members the use of a Congressional Office for serious business, but allowing the use of same for a Religious Ceremony for someone not even a Congressional member - now that's news.
Someone should be writing this story in a national forum.
It shouldn't be me, on a blog (no offense Kos, you know this is MY news base).
Where the hell are our generation's Woodward and Bernstein?
