The minutes, something people have not been talking about is who is leaking them. I heard one person on DU think it was Galloway. Galloway would not have been anywhere near close enough to Blair to have access to these document so that suggestion is laughable (never mind that the Labor party has been trying to destroy him since just after the war). It's not, it must be somebody very close to Blair. Think about it, it seems that after the first memo was leaked and the defense of "what does fixed mean in England" was used, we saw some more specific memos come out. They were not leaked at the same time, it's as if somebody wanted to finish the job. "The job" being the reason VERY high level minutes were leaked in the first place. Remember only maybe 10 or so people have access to that level of documents.
Blair is in a power struggle with Gordon Brown. Gordon has big support, but so does Blair. It is only a matter of time before Blair, has to stand down. Gordon does not have much charisma and is not a very likable person, he does not poll well, but has done some good things with the economy. But remember in the U.K the people do not elect the PM, the party do. Directly after the election Browns supporters asked Blair to step down, and things have been relatively quiet since then. Blair has been busy at the G8, but the movement has not gone away. People in the Labor party know Blair is a liability to them.
So somebody at a very high level of government is leaking these documents and Blair is in a power struggle with somebody at a very high level of government. It just so happens that Gordon, being the Chancellor of the Exchequer, was not a direct part of the war efforts. So if Labor were looking for somebody with credibility, who is not tarnished by the unpopular war, Gordon would be perfect. He is a top cabinet member, and not hated (or liked too much), has lots of party support and if Tony goes, and Gordon replaces him, the Labor party can almost put any scandal behind them. (remember they lost many seats because of the war).
So are the minutes being leaked by a Gordon Brown supporter? Is it to galvanize their case for Blair to step down and be replaced by Gordon? Why would a high level member of the Labor party leak these documents and put Labors image through all that negative press? I think in the coming months, we will see a vote of no confidence in the UK. I know now that it will take Blair to go, before we can even begin to touch Bush. Yesterday unfortunately shows we have the beginning of a great case, but we are still being stone walled by the Media. What's more the Democratic party are still not fully behind this cause, so we cannot count on them to do anything else but make spurious Nazi references right now (clearly more important in galvanizing support than something over 50% of the country believe :rolling my eyes: ).
So keep getting signature, keep searching for truth, but back in the reality community keep your eyes across the pond. Keep pushing the media (although I believe we have to rebuild our own media from the ground up). I go through good days and bad days, it's a rollercoaster. Some days I see light, some days I see a huge mountain in front of us (today is one of those days). I know that we need something to happen in the UK, and I have hopes that we could be seeing something happening, but maybe it's just a pipe dream.
