The Marijuana Policy Project's marijuana regulation initiative is officially on Nevada's 2006 ballot.
With big turnout guaranteed among the State's cannabis users, this presents a sterling opportunity for Dem candidates to wedge the drugwar.
Nevada voters twice approved a medical use initiative, by 59% in 1998, and 67% in 2000. It takes successive approvals to amend the State's Constitution.
MPP's email, below the fold.
The Marijuana Policy Project's marijuana regulation initiative is officially on Nevada's 2006 ballot.
This tremendous success marks the end of a lengthy court battle that began with MPP's 2004 initiative and finally culminated in MPP's sweeping court victory in January.
The initiative would remove all penalties for marijuana use by adults aged 21 and older, as well as create a system for the legal cultivation, distribution, and sale of marijuana to adults.
MPP is gearing up for a high-profile ballot campaign, and we will need your help to win. Please visit

After a federal judge in January ordered the Nevada government to place MPP's initiative on Nevada's 2006 ballot, the initiative was sent to the state legislature when it convened on February 7. The legislature was then required to consider our proposal and either pass it into law themselves (unamended) within 40 days or place it on the November 2006 (unamended) so Nevadans can vote on it.
On March 10, the legislature debated MPP's initiative ... the first time in years that any state legislature has debated regulating marijuana.
The legislature had until March 18 to either pass MPP's proposal or place it on the November 2006 ballot. It took no action, so the initiative now goes on the ballot.
We're finally poised to start the one-and-a-half year campaign to pass the initiative in Nevada ... which will have the added benefit of stimulating a national debate on whether marijuana should be prohibited or regulated.
